A “known traveler number” (KTN), is a unique identifier issued by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to pre-approved, low-risk air travelers. It is used to expedite the security screening process at airports. For example, a frequent business traveler who has a KTN may be able to use the TSA PreCheck line, which typically has shorter wait times.
KTNs are important because they can save travelers time and hassle at the airport. They can also provide peace of mind, as they indicate that the traveler has been vetted by the TSA. The KTN program was launched in 2011, and has since been expanded to include travelers from a number of countries.
