South Minneapolis Crime Watch is a volunteer-based organization dedicated to reducing crime and improving public safety in the South Minneapolis area. The organization was founded in 1985 and has since grown to include over 1,000 members. Crime Watch members patrol their neighborhoods, report suspicious activity to the police, and work with law enforcement to develop crime prevention strategies.
South Minneapolis Crime Watch has been credited with helping to reduce crime in the South Minneapolis area. A 2015 study by the University of Minnesota found that neighborhoods with active Crime Watch programs had lower rates of burglary and theft than neighborhoods without Crime Watch programs. Crime Watch has also been credited with helping to build community and improve communication between residents and law enforcement.
